If you're anything like me, you will ding your first bike on multiple occasions. The good news is (some) bodywork is easy with basic tools, but picking the right parts online can be a headache. This guide is here to help.
Color Coding
Parts for the MT-03 2020 Yamaha come in "Black Metallic 12" or "Mat Light Gray Metalic 4". Note the color code associated to parts numbers:
- Black parts: Color Code 1723
- Gray parts: Color Code 1700
Step by Step Color Swap
I replaced all the gray parts to metallic black. Here is my step-by-step process.
- Remove two screws on the top part. Note that the screws have plastic washers under them.
- remove the top part.
- Remove the screw on the side part.
- Remove the side part and the cover, side 6, attached to it, by pulling them together.
- Remove the two hidden screw on the inside of the side part connecting it to the cover, side 6.
- Transfer the two pieces of screw hardware from the old cover, side 6, to the new one.
- Screw and tighten the two hidden screw on the inside of the new side part connecting it to the new cover, side 6.
- Remove the screw on the inner framework holding the scoop and guide air.
- Remove two screws on the scoop and guide air.
- Remove the scoop and guide air.
- Remove the big and small screws on the side of the main cover.
- Remove the two top screws on the main cover.
- Remove from the bike the main cover and the inner framework altogether.
- Remove the hidden screw connecting the main cover to the inner framework.
- Detach the main cover from the inner framework.
- Transfer all the screws and washers from the old main cover on the new main cover.
- Assemble together the inner framework and the new main cover.
- Place and tighten the hidden screw (see step 13) going through the inner framework and the main cover. Note that this screw does not connect to the bike.
- Connect the inner framework and the main cover to the bike.
- Screw back the two top screws on the main cover to the bike (see step 12).
- Screw back the big and small screws on the side of the main cover (see step 11).
- Connect the new scoop and guide air to the bike.
- Screw back the two screws on the scoop and guide air (see step 9).
- Screw back the side screw connecting the scoop and guide air to the inner framework (see step 8).
- Connect the new side and part cover, side 6 (see step 4), to the bike.
- Screw and tighten the screw on the side part (see step 3).
- Repeat step 3 to 26 to overhaul the other side of the bike.
- Screw and tighten the new top part to the bike, using the two screws with plastic washers under them (see step 1 and 2).
- Congrats. You're done. Now take her for a ride!
